Today, Lindey’s Restaurant & Bar (click on link) in German Village officially debuts a new value menu aimed squarely at your wallet (and in a very good way).

The Bar Menu, along with a new specialty drink menu, will be offered daily at the restaurant’s famous bar from 4:30 to 6:30 PM and from 9 to 11 PM on Thursdays and 10 PM to Midnight on Saturdays.

Menu items include the Gigantic Meatball for $5, All American Burger for $3, Slice of Lindey’s (cheese or pepperoni) for $1, Lindenhuaf Chips for $1, Beef in a Box (charred rib eye with Asian slaw) for $5, and Micro Crab Cakes for $5.  The drink menu features a Goombay Smash, Tony’s Famous Lemon Drop, and the Liquid Carrot Cake dessert martini, to name just a few.

Even better, Lindey’s bar will offer significant drink discounts during the “happy” hours of 4:30 to 6:30 PM.

In other value news, Dine Originals Columbus kicks-off restaurant week (click on link) today with amazing fixed-price menus at 42 of Central Ohio’s favorite dining establishments.  Think 3-course tasting menus for either $15 or $30.

Move over Ronald, value menus have never tasted so good in Columbus.

This August, Columbus welcomes the first annual Pelotonia event, a grass roots bike race with one goal - to end cancer. 

Participants, family and friends will  enjoy a kick-off event in Columbus on Friday, August 28th.  Then, early on Saturday, August 29th, the bikers gear up and head for the hills of Southeast Ohio.

Riders have the opportunity to choose from three different biking experiences - a one-day 50-mile route, a one-day 100-mile route to Athens, and a two-day 180-mile route to Athens and back.  Depending on the length of the ride, participants pledge to raise between $1,000 and $2,000 for The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center - James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute.

Thanks to an exceedingly generous gift from NetJets, 100% of the funds raised by racers will go directly to cancer research.

The name comes from “peloton.” a cycling term used to describe a pack of riders who benefit from working together as a group.   So recruit some friends and be like Lance - all for a great cause.

Started by two sisters, Belle’s Homemade opened this past weekend in the old Bakery Gingham location and carries a variety of homemade donuts, cookies, and hand-rolled caramels.  Yesterday, selections included six varieties of donuts, toffee chunk cookies, iced sugar cookies, caramel rolls and more. 

Donuts are made fresh each morning at the duo’s off-site bakery, then delivered to the shop each morning by 8AM.  And since each day’s supply is limited (they stay open until sold out), special orders are encouraged.

Five Guys Burgers and Fries, the much-hyped burger institution originally from DC, recently opened its first Central Ohio location on Polaris Parkway.  Like all Five Guys, the restaurant serves burgers, hot dogs, grilled cheese or veggie sandwiches and two types of fries. 

Everything in the place, including the 16 complimentary toppings, is fresh - we hear the restaurant does not even own a freezer.  Visitors during the peak lunch hours might find a line almost out the door, but don’t flip out, the guys behind the counter work like a well-greased machine.  They’ll deliver a monstrous burger to you in no time flat.  Besides, there are boxes of free peanuts to enjoy while you wait.

Five Guys plans to open an OSU campus location very soon.  And rumor has it an Easton spot is not far behind.

Tonight, the Worthington Inn welcomes guests to its monthly wine dinner with “An Evening in Paris.”  Chef Tom Smith will prepare four courses inspired by the City of Light, each paired with a French wine.  The evening includes steamed PEI mussels, cauliflower veloute, roasted Cornish hen with chestnut-braised cabbage and warm apple tarte tatin with house-made ice cream.
